OutWiGo Girls

This past weekend, Women Hiking Wisconsin got the opportunity to participate in the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources event, OutWiGo Girls!

“Join Wisconsin State Parks for a day of adventure, learning and celebrating women in the outdoors. OutWiGo Girls is a special event set in Wisconsin's beautiful Kettle Moraine State Forest. From wildflower hikes, inspiring talks, bike rides, nature crafts and more, this day of fun is fit for OutWiGo Girls of all ages.”

With our booth set up at the Scuppernong Trailhead, between the DNR and REI Brookfield, we were ready for a day of hiking stories, hiking tips, introducing women to our group, and encouraging women to get out and hike!

We talked to so many outdoorsy women hikers and got a chance to make great connections with other Wisconsin-based organizations like the Ice Age Trail Alliance, Travel Wisconsin, Grace Creatives, Retzer Nature Center, and the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin.

Along with womanning our booth, we were able to talk to people at the other booths, hike the trail, pets lots of dogs, and, most importantly, make ham, cheese, and bacon pudgie pies for lunch.

Overall, this event was so fun and inspiring and we are still in awe that we were asked to be a part of it. The eight hours went by so fast, much faster than a regular work day. We’d like to say a big thank you to the Wisconsin DNR. Encouraging and empowering women to get out and hike is what Women Hiking Wisconsin is all about, so attending an event with this as the goal was remarkable.
